Last week we had a minster from the States visiting. He was here on a vision trip to see how his church back in States might come and partner with us in Porto. Please pray for this partnership. It was a great trip, but we have kept him pretty busy, so Sunday afternoon we decided to get out an stroll around the city. Here are some of my favorite pics from the afternoon.

Interesting Metro Exibit
ROCK BAND
Thanks to some gracious friends, our kids now have a drum set to go with their Wii Guitar Hero. (I think they actually just did not want the extra noise in their house :) I thought I'd share a few pictures with you. The look on Ethan's face is priceless. Thanks G family. They are really enjoying themselves.

10-10-10
As I was signing a note for Ethan tonight I realized that today is October 10, 2010 (10-10-10). That doesn't happen often so I thought it deserved a special blog post.
10 THINGS THAT I LOVE ABOUT PORTUGAL
1. Pedestrians always have the right away at the a crosswalk (I only like this when I am the pedestrian. It can be a pain if you are the driver.)
2. The beach is never more than a few hours away, but usually only a few minutes away.
3. Baba De Camelo (you will have to ask me about this one:)
4. There is a cafe on every corner (and usually 3 or 4).
5. Using the Metro is so much easier than driving.
6. Once they discover we are Americans, the Portuguese love to practice their English with us.
7. Everything is old and has a story.
8. FADO http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BdHbQBvgyQ0
9.Futebol (soccer)
10. The Portuguese people

Where there is smoke there is fire.
(I wrote this a month or so back but forgot to post it. Thankfully we have had some rain and cooler weather and the fires have subsided.)
The other night when we came home there was a huge cloud in the sky above our apartment. We were so excited that it might rain. There have been a lot of forrest/brush fires lately and we knew we could use the rain. However, once we got up to our 8th floor and looked out we realized it was not a cloud, but rather smoke. We have seen smoke before from some of other distant fires, but this was a huge smoke cloud. Once the sun went down we realized how big the fire was and how close it probably was.

Basketball in Portugal
This year Micah has chosen to play basketball instead of soccer. The game is played a little different here and he is having to learn to adapt to a new style of game. The referees look at his size compared to the Portuguese players and immediatly think "foul". He is really hanging in there, learning the ropes and playing really well. (He is #18.)

Day Trip
The other day a friend reminded me that I had not updated our blog in a while. We have been so busy trying to get back into the swing of school (for all of us) and preparing for visitors in October, that I have neglected our blog. I have a lot of pictures from the last few months, so I will try to get them all loaded so I can share them with you.
Before we all started back to school, we took a daytrip to the cities of Braga and Barcelos. Both cities are nearby and are rich in history. Barcelos is a small town that is famous for the Galo (rooster) of Portugal - a national symbol of Portugal. Check out the story here. You can even watch a little cartoon about the story.
We then stopped in Braga where we visited the Igreja Bom Jesus (Church of Good Jesus). It was a church and monastery retreat. It was amazing and set in such beautiful area in the woods. There are a massive series of steps leading up to the church. I was most impressed by the different "stations" representing the life and death of Christ.
